The 2012 Mediterranean Horseracing Union Drivers’ Championship continues this Friday 10th August at l’Hippodrome de la Cote d'Azur in Cagnes Sur Mer in France. The Mediterranean Horse Racing Union is an association that unites 14 different countries representing the Mediterranean area and the Black Sea region for both trotting and gallop horses. The championship is very similar to the Formula 1 racing season, whereby different races are held in various member countries and points are awarded according to the placing of each country’s representative in each race. A final classification determines the eventual winners. Malta won it in 2010.
This Friday’s leg is the 4th for this season in our country is currently placed in joint second position together with Serbia, 2 points behind leaders Italy. The Maltese driver in Cagnes Sur Mer will be Charles Camilleri, who is a very popular figure within the local horse racing scene. Charles was the second placed driver for 2011, being overtaken at the last race of the season from the eventual winner and current top Maltese driver, Noel Baldacchino. During his racing career, Charles has raced more than 3,000 races and has won more than 500 races.
The draw has already been made with Charles Camiller driving horse number 8 Quimi de Bruyère. This 8 year old has a career record of 72 races, winning only twice. The race is the 5th race on the programme stating at 22:15. It looks like that we would need a mammoth task for Charles to win this race with such a negative track record, but let’s all hope for the best.
