Young Drivers Visit Sweden for Training

On Monday 26th August four young drivers, members of the Malta Racing Club, will be going to Sweden in order to experience specialised training with regard to harness racing. This visit could only be made possible through funding by the European Union and the Mobility Project Leonardo da Vinci which funds acquired amounted to the sum of Ewro 10,165.

Kurt Saliba, Dylan Baldacchino, Warren Spiteri and Marvin Cauchi will be accompanied by Mr Marco Millo, member of the Malta Racing Club Council and Mr Anton Pace who together were instrumental in applying and successfully obtaining approval for this training programme. Besides the different aspects of this educational course, the drivers and officials have undertaken to relay back their experience and knowledge to fellow drivers once they return to Malta.

The duration of the visit is one week and will be covering both theory and practical aspects. Mr Tommy Lövgren will be taking care of the theory part. He is well known in Malta and for many years was responsible of a horse school in Sweden. During the course of the week, the Maltese youths will be getting a clearer knowledge regarding certain aspects of horse racing including shoeing and racing without prohibited substances.

They will also be able to experience the life of other youngsters like them that work in large stables as they will be visiting the stables of professional trainers based around the Jägersro racetrack like Joakim Lövgren (64 horses), Lars I Nilsson (48 horses), Ulf Norrby (14 horses) and others.

We are sure that these four upcoming drivers will be gaining an experience that will serve them well to advance more in the sport of horse racing in Malta.
