Best Meeting of the Season

Next Sunday’s racing programme is considered to be the best meeting of the season as it sees the start of The Tazza l-Kbira championship which is the main honour for local harness racing.

We say that this is the best meeting as six out of the eight races on the card are reserved for the best horses currently registered in Malta and during which each and every one of them will be vying to take one of the 24 coveted places in the semi finals.

This year 68 horses registered to take part in this championship and contrary to past seasons they are all racing in the Premier category. During the end of last year as well as 2015 Maltese owners have bought high caliber horses and this is being reflected in the Premier category races. Amongst the horses racing on Sunday we have 8 new ones as well as trotters that already enjoy high repute locally mentioning last year’s Tazza l-Kbira winner Cloria Victis, last year’s President’s Cup winner Pedro Vici and the 2013 Tazza l-Kbira winner Nabab du Chatelet. We also have the two fastest horses in Malta Orcas Bac and Prieure both of them record holders over the 1640m and 2140m distances.

All the other horses have between them won numerous races as well as local honours and it is impossible to mention all of them at this stage. All of this proves that once again it-Tazza l-Kbira will be offering the racing spectacle that everyone expects of such high quality standardbreds. After all this is the honour that every owner and driver aspires to win when they have a Premier Category horse.

The 24 horses qualifying on Sunday will be racing in two semi finals on Easter Sunday 5th April with the final of 12 horses being held a fortnight from this on Sunday 19th April.

Sunday’s programme starts at 13:30 with the Tazza l-Kbira heats commencing at 2:25 pm. The distance of this championship is as usual 2640m.
