Mapfre Middlesea Final for Premier Category

This morning at the Malta Racing Club Boardroom a press conference was held in order to give the latest information regarding the final sponsored by the Insurance company Mapfre Middlesea reserved for Premier category horses.


 


Apart from the Malta Racing Club Chairman Mr Edwin Borg and the officials of the Malta Racing Club, also present was Mr Fernando DoCampo Assistant General Manager of Mapfre Middlesea and the owners of the finalist horses.


 


On the 12th June the Summer Championship was initiated wherein horses could race a maximum of three times in which they were awarded points according to their finishing position in each race.  A total of 6 meetings were held every Friday and 28 horses in the Premier Category managed to acquire points because they finished at least once in 10th place.  From these the 12 horses that managed to get the best points will be participating in next Friday’s final and this morning the draws for their starting position behind the autostart was done in the presence of their owners.


 


The 12 horses with their respective probable drivers have drawn the following numbers:


 


1.         Quartz de Chenu – Michael Ellul


2.         Indigo Broline – Eugenio Bondin


3.         Quartz de Vindecy – Carmelo Farrugia


4.         Princess View – Jonathan J. Farrugia


5..        Quillan Joyeux – Andrew Farrugia


6.         Quattro d’Arline – Cliferty Calleja


7.         Qui Sait – Rodney Gatt


8.         Donald Duck Tooma – Charles Camilleri


9.         Wee Catch Diamond – Julian Farrugia


10.       Cloria Victis – Caillin Borg


11.       Printemps de Gaia – Johann Axisa


 


12.       Quartz Pierji – Frank Abdilla


The race will be the 6th one of the programme starting at 9:05 p.m. and the total prize money is €2400 with €1350 going to the winner.  The distance of the race is 2140m . The first four finishers will also be awarded trophies and the horse which wins the race will also be given a commemorative blanket.
