Charles Camilleri in Cagnes Sur Mer for the Prix de la Mediterranee


Malta’s representative at the 5th leg of the Mediterranean Horse Racing Championship for Trotters, will be the 2009 top horse driver Charles Camilleri. After the first 4 Legs, Malta is well positioned in 3rd place in the overall championship, thanks to excellent performances from the other Maltese drivers participating in the previous legs.

The 2010 Mediterranean Horse Racing Championship for trotters is made up of 8 competitive legs, held in different countries namely, France, Malta, Italy, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Russia and Algeria. Before leaving to Cagnes Sur Mer in France, Mr Mark Vella, Director of Marketing said, “the Malta Racing Club is once again proud to have a Maltese Driver representing Malta at another international event. After last week’s successful participation at the Hippodromo del Mediterraneo in Sicily, with James de L’Iton, a Maltese owned horse, winning the prestigious trophy, we hope to have another successful participation in France.” Mr Vella continued, ““The Club is committed to continue to have more Maltese drivers experience these type of international events. We believe that this can help to promote both our country as a sporting country for horse racing and also to improve the level of trotting drivers on the island”.

The Malta Racing Club will also be participating in the next 3 Legs in Russia, Croatia and Algeria. Charles Camilleri, the Maltese driver, was the 2009 top driver in Malta with 32 wins and a further 96 places. The race will be held this Friday at the Hippodrome de Cagnes Sur Mer over a distance of 2700m and is scheduled at 21:45. Charles Camilleri will be driving horse number 6 Organdina.
