Maltese Driver Tony Demanuele in Russia

The last leg of this year's Mediterranean Horse Racing Championship for Trotters, will be held this Sunday in Voronezh Russia. The Maltese representative Tony Demanuele together with Marco Millo, MRC Director, arrived late yesterday evening after a long journey from Malta to Moscow with a further 500km to travel to reach the city of Voronezh.
After the first 5 Legs, with the latest one being held two weeks ago in Cagnes Sur Mer, Malta is positioned in second place in the overall championship, just 3 points behind the leaders Serbia.

Like the leg in Slovenia this leg will be over two legs, were the same horses will be participating, but the drivers will be driving different horses in both legs. The Mediterranean Horse Racing Championship leg will be part of the Orlovskiy Festival, dedicated to the Orlov breed, which is the native Russian trotting breed.

The Orlov Trotter, also known as Orlov,is a horse breed with a hereditary fast trot, noted for its outstanding speed and stamina. It is the most famous Russian horse. The breed was developed in Russia in the late 18th century by Count Alexei Orlov at his Khrenovskoy Stud farm near the town of Bobrov (Voronezh guberniya) . The Orlovs emerged as the result of crossing various European mares (primarily of English, Dutch, Mecklenburg, and Danish breeding) with Arabian stallions.

Before leaving for the long trip to Russia, Tony Demanuele said that he will do his best to emulate his own same success at last year's leg in Russsia were he finish first. Mr Marco Millo, MRC Director, said "this year we have a very good chance of placing within the top three places, but most of all these experiences abroad can only help to improve our level of racing in Malta both for drivers and to learn more at what is being done outside our shores, and what can we (the Club) do to further enhance this popular sport in Malta."
