During these past years the first Championship of the season has always been the one sponsored by Assikura Insurance Brokers and once again this was open to the Gold and Bronze categories over the 2140m distance.

 

Details regarding this Championship were explained during a press conference held on Monday afternoon as this championship has now reached its final stage.  Present for this press conference were the Chairman of the Malta Racing Club Edwin Borg and the Managing Director of Assikura Insurance Brokers Ltd Andrew Grech.

 

Like last year a total of 6 heats were raced for the Gold category in which there were 66 participants from which 21 took part in two semi finals so that we now know who are the 12 finalists.  The date for the final has now been moved to Sunday 10th March as yesterday’s races will now be held next Sunday.

 

For the Bronze Category 84 horses participated in 8 heats from which 32 qualified for three semi finals which are still to be raced due to the postponement of Sunday’s programme.

 

In the two finals a total of €2400 in prize money will be distributed as well as trophies to the first four finishers.

 

During this press conference the owners of the Gold Category finalist horses drew the numbers with which their horses will be starting behind the autostart.
