ISARD DU PONT - The 1982/83 Story of 13 wins

Bank of Valletta Championship

Indeed, on the 6th March 1983 this horse took part in the semi-finals of the BOV Cup, where with the distance being that of 2150 metres, Isard du Pont yet again won racing enthusiasts’ hearts and managed to triumph in front of its sporting rival Jouteur du Clos which placed second, with the horses Inuniak and Ianki finishing third and fourth respectively, so that thus they also managed to qualify for the final together naturally with four other horses which competed in the other semi-final.

On this occasion this horse’s time was of 1’16’8 when as already stated, the distance was that of 2150 metres.  By now every racing enthusiast had started realising that Isard du Pont, was not just suited for short races, but that no distance was bothering it.  The keenly awaited appointment for the final arrived on the 13th March.  Here the finalists were:  Hispano du Pont, Isard du Pont, Inuniak, Jouteur du Clos, Ian Bonheur, Ianki, Iso du Pont.  Jais du Beaumont was also due to take part but this horse was scratched.

Isard had once again started as 1/1 favourite, with the horse Jouteur du Clos starting as second favourite.  It was a memorable race, but this time Isard had to settle for second place because the win went to Jouteur du Clos, in a time of 1’16’4 which had been described as a record, when the distance was that of 2150 metres.  Here Ianki had placed third.

After this final the next appointment for this horse which by now one can say had become an idol, was on the 27th March always of the year 1983, in a class A A1 race, when once again it had raced with a 25 metre handicap.  On this day it was not so lucky because it was disqualified.

A week later that is on the 3rd April, Isard had raced again in this top class A A1, always with a 25 metre handicap.  Here the horses were racing for the Freedom Day Cup.  Again luck was not on Isard’s side, so much so that even in this case it was once more disqualified.  The winner of this Freedom Day Cup was the other star Jouteur du Clos.
